Allie Kenny writes power pop with a Laurel Canyon heart — melodic, harmony-driven songs that split the difference between British Invasion hooks and '70s California songwriting. Kenny grew up in Northern New Jersey in a musical household, playing piano and writing songs long before she thought of herself as a songwriter. Her ear was shaped early by her old soul — Bowie and the Beatles first, then the soft rock and singer-songwriters of the era, and eventually Big Star and the jangly groups that followed. While studying industrial design in North Carolina, she returned to songwriting during a period of isolation and taught herself to record and produce, building full arrangements on her own through trial and error. Her debut single, "Soft Crash," was the first song she shared publicly, marking the start of a steady, self-directed climb from home recordings to a full live career.
That groundwork has led to her upcoming debut album, produced by Chris Stamey and featuring musicians from Wilco, the Jayhawks, R.E.M., and more, set for release in 2027. The record
moves across registers without losing its through line — a power-pop hook here, an alt-country turn there, a baroque ballad elsewhere — all built on melody and lyrics drawn from real, specific experience. Kenny typically performs solo and acoustic, but for this show she bringing the full band, translating the
records arrangements to the stage in a way her audience rarely gets to see live.
