NYC SURVIVORS
In the 1980’s Dan Lynch’s, Heartbreak, The Lone Star, City Limits, Galway Bay – and more – were live music hotbeds. Song after song, night after night, and on some nights that melted into mornings, it was the musicians who were the beating heart of the
scene. They rocked the blues, country, rockabilly, blue eyed soul, New Orleans-influenced funk and stirred it together in a gumbo that came to be called Americana.
On September 8 a group of survivors of that gritty, high-risk, dangerous, inspired time will come together at the Turning Point. Michael (Idarola) Canfield, who’s been hiding out in Africa for the past couple of decades, has called together a group of incredibly talented old friends for this very special, one-time performance. He’ll be joined by International Blues Hall of Fame guitarist Jon Specter; Blues Foundation Award-winning pianist Dave Keyes; acclaimed keyboardist and long-time collaborator Seth Farber; Ken “Big Bunny” Sobel; legendary telecaster master Arlen Roth; Harry Holt protege Rose Conforti on bass – and who knows who? What is known is that these folk will blow the roof off when they play together again for the first time since the old times.
